📖 Why Coastal Temperatures Change More Slowly

Water changes temperature more slowly than many land surfaces because it takes a large amount of energy to warm or cool a large body of water. Near oceans and large lakes, this can moderate nearby air temperatures. During the day, land may warm quickly while water stays cooler. At night, water can release stored heat more slowly. This helps explain why some coastal areas have smaller temperature swings than inland areas.

1. Why does water change temperature relatively slowly?

2. What can large bodies of water do to nearby temperatures?

3. How can land and water differ during the day?

4. What pattern can occur in coastal areas?

✏️ Writing

Write 1–2 paragraphs explaining how a large lake or ocean can influence nearby temperatures.

➕ Math

1. 2/6 + 3/6 = ______
2. 5/6 − 1/6 = ______
3. Write an equivalent fraction for 2/3: ______
4. Which is greater: 3/5 or 3/4? Explain: __________________

🎨 Color & Create

Draw a day-and-night coastal diagram showing heat movement.
