📖 Why Cities Plant Trees
Trees in cities do more than make streets look attractive. Their leaves provide shade, which can lower surface temperatures on sidewalks and buildings. Tree roots can also slow rainwater as it moves through soil, reducing some runoff. In addition, leaves can trap certain airborne particles. Planting trees is not a solution to every urban problem, but it can be one useful part of making neighborhoods cooler and more comfortable.
